When leaving Nashville, Tennessee we stopped in Hendersonville where we discovered that we could attend a live taping of the Mike Huckabee show...for free! Of course, we couldn't turn down an opportunity to check out the behind-the-scenes of a live TV taping. While we weren't familiar with any of the names of his guests that day, it was still a really neat experience.
Random bunny trail... while we were here and seated awaiting the show, some lovely older folks behind us started chatting us up. They're regulars while they snowbird in Tennessee each year. Turns out that during the non-snowbird season, they live in the small town (as in 2300 people) in Iowa that Mom grew up in. Even more amazing, is that their next door neighbors and good friends are Mom's 8th grade English teacher and high school guidance counselor, both of whom she hasn't seen in over 40 years. Talk about a small world!!
None of us have watched many releases of Gov. Huckabee's show, but we had seen enough to be familiar with his backdrop, so it was neat to walk in and see it in person...albeit crowded with cranes, cameras, and crew.
Once we were seated, Gov. Huckabee came out and talked to the audience off-camera giving a few instructions. In between each segment, while Huckabee and his guests took a few pictures, crew members interacted with the audience and tossed Huckabee merch into the seats. Randall and Mom each got a t-shirt, and we also ended up with a little stress-ball. It was interesting to see everything that happens during the recording stage of producing a TV show.
After the recording, we had the opportunity to meet Gov. Huckabee which we hadn't expected. He chatted with us for a few minutes and took a group picture.
Random Sidenote: We were surprised to see they had free refreshments for guests prior to the studio recording...who can turn down a slice of delicious cheesecake!?!
Here are three of the guest talks/performances we got to see in-studio. K-Von was by far our favorite of the night:)
All in all, it was an interesting way to spend a few hours in Tennessee...If you're ever in that area, it's well-worth checking to see if a recording session is scheduled during your time there. And the best thing is.. you can go for free! Lol...
Until next time, God bless
