The D-Team had a city Thanksgiving and a beach Christmas...so what did we do for Easter? How does a woodland Resurrection Day in the middle of nowhere Arkansas sound? As our travel route and schedule worked out, we had the opportunity to attend Easter service at the lovely, glass Thorncrown Chapel in the midst of God's beautiful creation.
Thorncrown Chapel was built in 1979 to fulfill Jim Reed's dream of a glass chapel in the woods as a place for wayfarers to unwind in nature and draw closer to their Creator.
As a nature lover (and daydreamer), I really enjoyed gazing out the window at God's incredible creation while reflecting on His boundless love for those He calls His own. While I'm sure the chapel sees lovelier days during the summer and fall, it was beautiful even in the barrenness of early spring. In fact, it was quite fitting to look out and see little hints of new life peeking out from the forest around us on the day we celebrate how Christ offers new life, through his death and resurrection, to those who are dead in their sin.
After settling back in at the Christ of the Ozarks grounds where we were staying (more on that in the next post) it was time for our Easter dinner...consisting of mostly Thanksgiving-style foods with the addition of spring-time looking Rice Krispy treats.
Altogether, our Easter was very sweet and simple...just the way we like it. :) If you are ever in the Eureka Springs area, make a quick stop at the Thorncrown Chapel and take a moment to enjoy the tranquil beauty of this unique ministry.
Until next time, God bless!
