March 16, 2024: Take a Ride on the River with Us (and you won't get wet!)

Updated: Apr 18

If you're in a hurry to live vicariously through us, skip on down to the bottom of this post for GoPro footage that Dominic turned into fantastic and fun video!

Chilly weather, rubber rafts, and river rapids...what could possibly go wrong? Thankfully, nothing did, and the D-Team had yet another incredible adventure, this time in Tennessee! Whitewater rafting has been on the bucket list of the four older kids quite awhile. We honestly didn't think it would happen on this trip, but our awesome Mom found a place for us to check that box while in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Smoky Mountain River Rafting was recommended to us by a friend, and they were a stellar company to raft with.

We arrived and suited up in splash suits designed to keep us semi-warm and dry despite the chilly weather and crashing waves. Mom was quite anxious about taking the littles out due to their lack of swimming skills and the possibility of the raft tipping or someone falling overboard. She didn't want them to be traumatized by ending up in a cold and raging river. We were told it happens every single day! A guide with decades of experience persuaded Mom not to back out, and agreed to guide the raft that would have the little boys in it. Ewok was very considerate of his raft's occupants and gave them a fun but safe trip down the river. Randall, Dominic, Maleah and I ended up in a raft with Matt, who also had years of experience and quickly picked up on our adventurous spirit. He was awesome and gave us the most exciting trip he could pull off, hitting rapids straight-on with higher speeds and even backward at one point. It was so much fun, and reasonably priced also, I might add.

Getting ready to load up

Littles didn't have paddles and held onto carabiner handles that Ewok kindly fastened to the front for them.

Wahoooo!

Our suits kept us surprisingly dry (except for sleeve-cuffs) but our feet definitely froze:)

The young adults trip down the river...this is the more epic video and includes some funny footage of a tourist falling out of the raft beside us (at 6:26). If you watch close enough, you can see his foot flying up as he fell in. (Check out the guide's expressions, LOL)

Our guide decided to take us down the river and through a rapid backwards...as well as have us do a few donuts in the middle of the river:)

Mom and Dad's slightly more relaxed adventure with the little boys in front, guided by Ewok.

Whitewater rafting was so much fun, and definitely an activity we would love to experience again. I'm guessing we shouldn't be figuring on that happening in Iowa though. ;)

Until next time, God bless!
