Coastal Beach Fun!

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

DID YOU KNOW? The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean in the world, covering 30% of the globe. It was named mar pacific by Ferdinand Magellan, meaning peaceful sea. Because of the tectonic plates movement, the ocean actually shrinks an inch every year. (Meanwhile, the Atlantic Ocean is actually the opposite…expanding an inch every year.)

Greetings from California! I recently realized that despite all the fun we’ve had on

beaches the last couple of weeks, I haven’t really mentioned them at all or shared any of the

pictures except for when we went tide-pooling, so…this post is all about the ocean and

beaches. We’ve spent several delightful days on several different beaches along the Pacific

western coast. Mom and Dad have been to the ocean before, but for the rest of us, this was our first introduction to this vast expanse of salty water. It was cold, loud, and tasted nasty, but we loved it!

Beautiful weather!

Aren't beach photos pretty! Dominic took some great photos, so I thought I'd put them to some relaxing music for y'all to enjoy:)

(All the pictures, except the two sunset ones, were from Ruby Beach in Washington)

There were also a couple of evenings when we were able to enjoy a lovely sunset over

the ocean. I have fond memories now of Maleah and I standing in the shallow waves, down the shoreline from the rest of our family, watching the sun go down and singing songs like

Hallelujah, It is Well, Wellerman, In Christ Alone, and several more. We’ve been slowly figuring out how to harmonize (well, she harmonizes while I sing melody…I haven’t quite figured out how to find the harmony note the way she can, LOL) and it was such a sweet experience to sing together with a ‘backing track’ of waves.

Holding up the sun :)

We also found a beach made up of small sand dunes. This provided a natural, novel

playground for the little boys (and certain other siblings who are still children at heart, LOL).

Personally, I found it enchanting to sit on a sand dune by myself and watch the sunset while

softly singing and playing my ukulele.

Running up a sand dune

Really random side note, what is it about sand beaches that makes a person want to

run? I’m not an athletic person, nor do I particularly enjoy running, but on every sand beach we went to, I would suddenly get the urge to run. (After a couple days of this in a row, my muscles were so sore I could barely crawl up and down to my bunk area in Kram-a-Lot Inn.) Reflecting upon this question, I realized I must not be the only one. The Internet is full of pictures of people running on sandy beaches along the edge of the water. So, apparently, it’s a thing. :)

Most of the time we spent at the beach, we were bundled up in sweatshirts and/or

jackets because of the chilly weather. We typically waded in the shallows only, however, we did have one afternoon when it was warm enough that we changed to swimsuits and truly enjoyed the salty waves. We had to hold onto the little boys most of the time. They are still small enough to be easily knocked over or swept away. It was an absolute blast experiencing the full power of ocean waves at high-tide on that beach!

Another video collage, this time of all the beaches we were at!

That’s all for today. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post on the two incredible church

services we attended on Sunday under Pastor John MacArthur (Grace Community Church) and

Pastor Jack Hibbs (Calvary Chapel), along with the two accidents that caused damage to the RV on Sunday…was it purely coincidence, or were there dark forces working to prevent us from receiving spiritual nourishment? Don’t go away! I’ll be right back sometime in the next few days with more on this breaking news story! (Whoops, did I just switch to my radio broadcast writing style?)

Until next time, God bless!

Bye!
