Hey folks,
We've done a lot of little things the last week or so that hasn't made it onto the blog yet, so I'm just going to do a summary post starting the day after Christmas. The one thing most of this has in common is water/beaches, LOL.
We technically left Port Aransas beach on the 26th, but only by moving about a mile further down the beach\ to a campground (needed full hookups for a few days) that was right next to the beach. It had easy access to the beach and was just a short walk from a popular fishing jetty.
After officially leaving Port Aransas a couple days later, we took a quick detour to the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center - recommended to us by our friends the Muellers after they caught sight of Boots, the local alligator celebrity. While we didn't get to see Boots, we did see lots of birds and ducks.
Over the next two days, we passed through Port Lavaca and Galveston, where we had our first bad Walmart experience and only bad Texas experience (besides losing Rosie earlier on in El Paso). It was late, and both Dad and Maleah were very sick, so we pulled into the local Walmart only to find that they had signs saying no overnight camping. Feeling anxious about driving our rig around a strange town at night, Mom talked to the very polite security guy about getting permission to stay. He referred her to the Walmart employees, who said that they didn't have a problem with us staying and understood we were in a tough predicament. They did say it was a city policy, so we did run a risk if we stayed. We decided to stay anyway, and hunkered down for the night. We were awakened early the next morning by a very snippety Walmart security guy who told us to leave right away or he'd have to call law enforcement. We left quickly, but once we got farther down the road, we realized we needed some groceries for the sick family members and Walmart was the only place close in our area of Galveston to get them. So we turned around and went back, about an hour after we had pulled out. Just as we finished shopping and loading the RV, the security guy pulled up to let us know that "the tow truck was enroute" and we'd be towed if we weren't gone by the time the truck arrived. Well then. What a bum way to end two months in Texas! Which btw, we were in Texas from October 31 - December 31. Our favorite state by far! We've even talked about possibly doing future family vacations there. It was strangely sad to say goodbye to the Lone Star State, and we're very thankful to be taking home the best Texas souvenir ever - our beautiful Bernedoodle puppy!
Random sidenote: It has been super neat to see all the buildings in coastal Texas and Louisiana that are built on stilts because of hurricane flooding risk. Some of the beach houses are absolutely adorable! Many of the houses also have outdoor elevators (both enclosed and open-platform) to access the house.
The last few days have been spent on Rutherford beach, shelling and enjoying the outdoors. We have really enjoyed looking for shells and have been hoping to find a large, whole conch shell...which we kind of did. It's not as big or beautiful as we would like, but Dominic found a white sun-bleached one. I'm really looking forward to getting home and trying out some cool crafts with these shells...such as candles, jewelry and other beach decor
We've been having some enjoyable game nights the past few weeks as well, since Maleah received Uno Attack for Christmas and Levi just got Taco-Cat-Goat-Cheese-Pizza for his birthday. Lots of laughter can be heard during these games, LOL.
Lastly, just a little update on Lucy Loo...she's turning out to be a wonderful addition to our family in everyone but Nellie's opinion. She's incredibly sweet and affectionate, plus she's pretty, chillaxed which is good in a small RV. Nellie is a big (well, little) bully towards Lucy, and if given the choice, would prefer to be an only dog. Thankfully, Lucy never retaliates when Nellie pitches a doggy-tantrum. She continues to be friendly towards her bratty sister. (Although, she has figured out that her loud barking scares the pee out of Nellie [literally], so occasionally will torment our little Nervous Nellie.)
Lucy is a very loud and goofy snorer...sometimes it sounds like we've brought a tuba onto the RV, LOL
Anywho, there's my very scattered post about all the random things that's been going on behind-the-scenes at Kram-A-Lot Inn!
Until next time, God bless!
