Last week, as we drove to our camper, we were eyewitnesses to the havoc that May's tornadoes wreaked a week prior in Nevada, Iowa...and it brought home the idea of just how quickly life can change dramatically. A lovely brick home we've driven past hundreds of times every summer year after year was nearly leveled, the trees ravaged, and the barn scattered into nearby fields.
There was another house a short distance away, also visible from the highway, that was rotated ninety degrees off its foundation. During the twister, most of the residents took cover in the cellar, while one person was trapped in the barn and suffered severe injuries when the brick structure collapsed on him. (Click here to read a news article and watch video footage of this specific event.) These individuals, along with many others, saw their lives change drastically in a matter of moments and could do nothing about it.
We live in a broken world; Tragedy can strike anyone at any moment...a car accident steals the life of a brother, a friend secretly struggling with depression commits suicide, a pregnant mother miscarries, a natural disaster ravages your property. We cannot control what happens to us, but we can trust God in everything (definitely easier said than done, I know) and live each moment to its fullest for His glory. Love and forgive those around you like there is no tomorrow, for there may be no tomorrow. Cherish each moment you have and don't take your life for granted...It's a precious gift from God and can change in the blink of an eye.
