I've always loved acrostics, so I jumped at the challenge when HSLDA hosted a poetry contest for homeschool students a number of years ago. The topic was the night sky and had to utilize rhyming couplets While I didn't place in the finalists, it was really fun to take my poetry entry in a unique direction by utilizing the acrostic "A Starry Evening"...especially since I haven't had much experience writing in rhyming couplets so it was extra challenging:)
A Starry Evening
A starry evening begins to appear…
Stars emerge to sparkle in the sky
Twinkling merrily above so high.
A crescent moon shining bright
Radiates a soft luminescent light.
Restless animals cross the sidewalk path
Yawning as they revel in a moonlight bath.
Each night out my window I gaze,
Viewing an intricate heavenly maze.
Enjoying God’s beautiful creation,
Now reminding me of my salvation
In the blood of Jesus spilled for me
Nobility laid down, a servant to be.
God’s grace bought for a price.
